NECTA (North East Computer Traders Association) recently organized a programme of blanket distribution among the needy and homeless of Guwahati City and distributed about 500 blankets and shawls to the poverty stricken people sleeping and living on the streets of Guwahati City. The distribution drive was carried out in the night which continued till the wee hours of the next day. The members of the NECTA went around the city from 11 pm in the night and covered shelterless people with blankets without waking them up. The silent rally consisting of 6 teams of volunteers started at 11 pm and ended by 4 am and covered nearly the entire city. Over 300 shelterless people were found sleeping on sacks, covered with negligible warmth, and the rest huddled around fires trying to find warmth in everyway possible.
" It's heartening to see such a good response From the NECTA members at a very short notice and which enabled us to help those suffering due to severe cold wave gripping Guwahati. Within a span of less than 24 hours, the members readily and happily contributed to the cause and thus made the program a huge success" said Vikash Agarwal, General Secretary, NECTA. He Further added that “ Inspite of the cold night, NECTA volunteers turned up in huge numbers to undertake the responsibility of the actual distribution of the blankets to the destitutes on the streets and pavements”.
NECTA as a part of their CSR activities has regularly been undertaking such activities to help the less privileged, needy, poor and disaster struck people, of the region.
